so addressing all these issues together helped me experience some success finally in losing some weight. so i now know these surgeries are not for me, because for me they would be the easy way out. at least i think so at this time.

i used to think the surgeries were the easy way out for everybody, until i attended a surgery support group and listened to their stories of throwing everything up. now i realise it would just be the easy way out FOR ME! its not ok for me to assume that is true for everyone else. i dont agree that everyone i have seen get the surgery made the best decision. i have seen people who probably could have lost the weight on their own but for whatever reason they decided to go through with it, and i think it was harder than they thought.

i think its fat people who are filled with self loathing who go on & on about how the surgeries are easy and we are all overweigtht just because we eat like pigs. these are people who know they lack the will power to change their lives by doing what they need to do and resent the people who have the courage to make positive changes in their lives. do what you need to do to stop eating and eating and eating, if thats your issue. and stop discouraging the people who are making positive changes in a way that is different than yours.

and side note...i find it quite amazing and commendable to be able to lose large amounts of weight through just diet and exercise, but lets not get too cocky and assume thats the BEST way to PERMANENTLY lose weight for everybody, and that everyone who gets the surgery is doing something easier...only time will tell where you will be in 5 yrs or in 10....life can have a funny way of humbling us if we dont keep our egos in check, especially when it come to weightloss!

ultimately, i feel it is my responsibility as a fellow fat chick to be supportive of other fat people who decide to try to lose weight for their health as long as they are doing it mindfully and in a healthy responsible way. i believe the surgeries are a tool that i am happy is available for many fat people to use to make positive changes in their lives even if i dont believe it is the right method for me.
Excellent Excellent Excellent. To all the fat men and women on the this site. Don't let anyone prevent you from being the best you can be, whatever that is in your life(that includes me too). Very well said.

ok after reading most of the post id like to start by stating gastric/lapband/pacemaker are reversable, duendal switch is not. Surgery is and isnt easy. weightloss comes fast yet your constantly sick throwing up possibly dumping syndrom dehydradion nevermind possible depression. Then based on your weight start you may not have lost the amount of weight hoped for due to where your gi tract was cut. Now that weve got through that and youve dropped your 50-100lbs youve evened out your no longer losing fast your on solid foods heres your hard part either youve learned to eat proper or you havent so youll continue to lose or youll gain it back so in the end having the surgery has become no more easier then then losing the weight intially its just a tool to help. sometimes due to immobiliy health issues ect this is nes. This surgery doesnt solve your weight issue because your weight issue is mental, so this is why this surgery is not the easy way out.

i wasn't making any of those assumptions. I was not judging anyone. I was simply stating that people should not be suggesting this surgery. i think this is a case of men are from mars and women are from venus. I see why no other men responded to this post. Again my opinion.

After reading all of the posts, here's my 2 cents. It's up to the individual. There are a lot of studies, testimonials pro/anti surgery groups and information to educate yourself. I don't think anyone here is leading anyone here to the clinic to be prepped. Whether you hit the gym, do Jenny Craig/WW, surgery-there will be 2 questions that the individual can only answer to themselves-what are the factors that got you to this point, and will you be committed to make a change. Just saying.

This is my last post on this topic. Time to move on. The attacks have increased greatly. Good luck to all, whatever your form of weight loss is.

Thumbs up Re: Lap Band surgery

There's a 9 pg article on Oprah.com about Michael Hebranko....but I liked what he said about not having any of the weight loss surgeries. And it is along the lines of what I feel about maintaining the chemicals in the brain to take away that "thing'' that makes a person addictive.

"Though Michael says he considered gastric bypass surgery, it ultimately wasn't for him. When he first started focusing on weight loss, he says he was too heavy to be a candidate for the surgery. While he applauds anyone who has succeeded with gastric bypass, Michael says it wouldn't solve his illness. "Unless they're ready to do a bypass in my brain, it's not going to work," he says. "I'm never hungry in my stomach; I'm never full in my stomach. I need the bypass [in my head], where I have the disease. That's where I fight the battle every day."

This time around, Michael says he's learned not to have a specific weight loss goal. "My goal is to live," he says. "My goal is to do better every day, to be able to move a little bit more."
